Disputed United States-funded GHF Aid Organization Terminates Humanitarian Work

The foundation previously suspended its food distribution centers in Gaza after the ceasefire took effect last month

The debated, US and Israel-backed GHF aid organization announces it is concluding its aid operations in the affected area, following nearly half a year.

The group had previously halted its three food distribution sites in Gaza after the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel was implemented recently.

The organization attempted to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of relief to Palestinian residents.

International relief agencies declined to participate with its methodology, claiming it was improper and dangerous.

Hundreds of Palestinians were lost their lives while seeking food amid turbulent circumstances near the foundation's locations, mainly through Israeli military action, according to the UN.

The Israeli military claimed its troops fired cautionary rounds.

Mission Completion

The foundation announced on recently that it was terminating work now because of the "satisfactory fulfillment of its emergency mission", with a aggregate of 3 million parcels containing the equivalent of more than 187 million meals distributed to Gazans.

The GHF's executive director, the executive director, also said the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) - which has been established to help execute the American administration's Gaza initiative - would be "taking over and developing the approach the organization demonstrated".

"GHF's model, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, played a huge role in convincing militant groups to participate and securing a halt in hostilities."

Reactions and Responses

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - approved the termination of the humanitarian foundation, based on information.

A spokesman for said the organization should be held accountable for the negative impact it created to Palestinians.

"We call upon all international human rights organisations to ensure that it does not escape accountability after leading to casualties and wounds of numerous Palestinians and concealing the nutritional restriction approach implemented by the Israeli authorities."

Organization Timeline

The organization commenced activities in Gaza on late May, a week after Israeli authorities had somewhat relaxed a complete restriction on aid and commercial deliveries to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and caused severe shortages of essential supplies.

Subsequently, a famine was declared in the Gaza metropolitan area.

The foundation's nourishment distribution centers in various parts of the Palestinian territory were administered by US private security contractors and located inside Israeli military zones.

Aid Organization Objections

United Nations agencies and their collaborators said the approach breached the basic relief guidelines of objectivity, fairness and autonomy, and that directing needy individuals into armed forces regions was intrinsically hazardous.

United Nations human rights division said it recorded the deaths of a minimum of 859 residents seeking food in the vicinity of GHF sites between 26 May and 31 July.

A further 514 persons were lost their lives close to the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it also mentioned.

The majority of these individuals were lost their lives due to the Israel's armed forces, as per the organization's documentation.

Divergent Narratives

Israeli defense forces stated its soldiers had discharged cautionary rounds at individuals who came near them in a "intimidating" way.

The GHF said there were no firearm incidents at the distribution centers and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" statistics from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Ongoing Situation

The GHF's future had been indefinite since Hamas and Israel agreed a ceasefire deal to implement the first phase of the United States' reconciliation proposal.

The arrangement specified relief provision would take place "without interference from the involved factions through the United Nations and its agencies, and the Red Crescent, in addition to other global organizations not connected in any way" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

UN spokesperson the international body's communicator said on Monday that the GHF's shutdown would have "no influence" on its work "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while more aid was getting into Gaza since the halt in hostilities began on 10 October, it was "insufficient to satisfy all requirements" of the 2.1 million residents.
