In Such Poor Health Walking Was Impossible When a Man Practically Supported Me to a Bathroom.

During my 19 years old, my daily commute involved an crowded coach. The vehicle was always jammed and invariably became without any seats when I stepped aboard.

During a certain commute, I was feeling quite nauseous while the vehicle lurched around the bends. I kept telling myself to persevere another few kilometres so the bus could reached my stop, at which point I could rush hurriedly toward the most convenient washroom to be sick.

As we neared the road leading to the stop when I understood I would not be to make it. In an instant, it seemed a curtain fell over me. Everything just went blank and silent; like someone had cut the sound. My mind raced, “I am about to pass out”.

Fortunately, I stood toward the front on the bus, so I took several steps forward and asked the driver to pull over, telling him I was going to vomit. He opened the doors and I weakly exited onto the sidewalk.

My intention was to avoid being sick before six lanes of traffic, so I forced myself up and endeavored to stumble toward the green space opposite the street, where I believed I’d at least be able to find some privacy behind a bush to be sick. Yet I apparently fainted. I was aware of my physical self, yet I was unable to walk or see clearly, so I started crawling towards the grassy area.

“You right, love?”

Right then, I was lifted up. I sensed someone holding me and heard a man say, “Are you okay, dear?” I managed to tell the kind passerby that I had to to vomit. Therefore, he almost supported my weight over to an adjacent building and placed me inside the women’s restroom. He asked me if I wanted him to remain with me but I said no.

After a short while, I regained my composure sufficiently to sit on the restroom floor when from beyond the door I heard his voice asking, “Are you OK, love? Do you need anything?” I wasn’t able to get up at that moment but did manage to thank him and after a few more minutes recovered the use of my legs. I returned home and spent the next few days healing from what was later diagnosed as a severe stomach virus.

I did not see the stranger’s face – only his legs and the big container for tools he had with him – yet he rescued me, when I was in my weakest state.

Frequently, society has a way of making you guarded, hostile, and combative. His act was the type of kindness that melts away that hardening of the heart. He demonstrated that humanity’s innate tendency is to be kind, a trait I cherish about my fellow humans.
