Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with performances like these.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
