Supporters Urge Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the Australian man pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
