The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."

The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.

The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
