The State of Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Tylenol Manufacturers Regarding Autism Claims

Judicial Proceedings
The Texas Attorney General, a Trump ally who is running for US Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of concealing safety concerns of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is taking legal action against the manufacturers of acetaminophen, claiming the corporations hid alleged dangers that the medication created to pediatric brain development.

The lawsuit arrives four weeks after President Donald Trump advocated an unsubstantiated connection between taking acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which previously sold the medication, the only pain reliever suggested for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a statement, he said they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and promoting medication ignoring the dangers."

The company says there is no credible evidence connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These companies deceived for years, deliberately risking countless individuals to increase profits," the attorney general, a Republican, declared.

The company commented that it was "seriously troubled by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the reliability of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the health of American women and children."

On its official site, Kenvue also stated it had "consistently assessed the applicable studies and there is no credible data that indicates a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations representing medical professionals and medical practitioners concur.

ACOG has declared acetaminophen - the primary component in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for women during pregnancy to treat pain and elevated temperature, which can pose major wellness concerns if not addressed.

"In more than two decades of investigation on the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the consumption of acetaminophen in any period of gestation causes neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring," the group stated.

The court filing cites current declarations from the previous government in claiming the drug is allegedly unsafe.

Recently, the former president generated worry from public health officials when he instructed pregnant women to "fight like hell" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The FDA then issued a notice that physicians should contemplate reducing the usage of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the medication and autism in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in spring to conduct "comprehensive study program" that would identify the source of autism in a short period.

But specialists advised that identifying a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of inherited and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a category of permanent neurological difference and disability that affects how people perceive and engage with the world, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his legal document, Paxton - who supports Trump who is campaigning for US Senate - asserts Kenvue and J&J "willfully ignored and tried to quiet the science" around paracetamol and autism.

The case aims to force the companies "remove any marketing or advertising" that states Tylenol is safe for expectant mothers.

The Texas lawsuit echoes the complaints of a collection of parents of minors with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

A federal judge threw out the case, stating research from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
